Electronic Music Cavalcade is a new and innovative lifestyle festival held in Gothenburg, Sweden. The cavalcade consists of four festival days, spread over three Fridays and one Saturday in May 2011 and is arranged as a natural extension of our monthly club concept, Electronic Music Club.
Our approach to the festival is that for three consecutive Fridays in May, show acclaimed dance music influenced movies/documentaries at the Gothenburg-based collective House of Win Win, and thus build up tension before the final solid day of music at Röda Sten. Our ultimate goal is to bring a piece of the European club feeling to Gothenburg through a mixed audio and visual festival, fully focused on club and electronic dance music culture.
We who represent EMC are passionate about our musical interest and we always try our best to achieve our goals. As for the Electronic Music Cavalcade, we have consistently booked experienced Swedish top acts in the genre of modern electronic dance music, building on our basic idea of bringing quality music to the dance floor – at a good price and in a legitimate environment (i.e. an appropriate club environment with professional staff, all permissions cleared and zero tolerance for drugs).
Festival dates to remember are Friday the 13th, the 20th and the 27th of May, which are serial movie nights at House of Win Win, and our peak festival date, Saturday the 28th of May, which is a 17 hours cavalcade of electronic music at Röda Sten, Gothenburg.
Founder of Hertz project, and one half of the current band setup, is the Swedish Radio and P3 Dans
(weekly nationwide electronic dance musicradio show) legend Pierre Jerksten. In the early nineties Pierre made
name for himself throughout the Swedish electronic music community by hosting the acclaimed radio show P3 Dans.
In 2001 he founded Hertz which quickly became a recongnized name in the top tier of contemporary Techno. A few
years down the road, through a music collaboration, Pierre met the Gothenburg based DJ and producer Petter B
and Hertz took on it's current form. Today, Pierre and Petter has an arsenal of highly acclaimed releases
(including massive releases on Mark Knight's Toolroom Records)
to back them up as they perform live on the international Techno scen.
With over two hundred(!) releases so far throughout his career, no one would argue against the fact that Håkan Lidbo is one of the giants within the world of electronic dance music. Musically his work stretches from obscure sonic experiments to straight up pop, and due to his personal style and out of the box thinking, Håkan has often been referred to as a pioneer.
His work involves producing and remixing widly known artists like Fatboy Slim, Depeche Mode, Trentemøller, Fever Ray and Sophie Ellis Bextor. His work has been released on labels like SKAM, Tommy Boy, Mille Plateaux, Force Inc, Fragile, Plastic City, Data Error, Kant, Moody and Ministry Of Sound to name a few. Håkan also hosts Ström (a inovative electronica program on Swedish national Radio) and is the head chief behind the acclaimed Swedish electronic music festival VOLT.
Fred White has been a part of the Swedish Techno scene for a long while. Co-Founder of the 20 year old festival Arvikafestivalen, electronic music producer and DJ for more than 20 years, Fred really stands out from the rest of us. Frequent gigs the last two decays at clubs in countries like Germany, England, Norway, Portugal, Switzerland & festivals like Fusion & The Vuuv Experience has shaped Fred's sound to move dance floors back and forth, no matter time, size or shape of the venue.
Fred White has made earlier releases on labels like Detached Records Berlin, Warner, CutOff Recordings & Spiral Trax and started 2011 with both a 4 track release at Israel based Dance And Dust Records called Moderation, and a Swedish co-work with Ell-Er which maybe is the beginning of a central Swedish techno statement that are here to stay. Both this and the base for electronic dance music Fredrik has built in his home town Arvika leads us back to a great producer, a big DJ and a man with an almost endless love for the electronic dance music. Fred lives under the motto Music Is My Girlfriend and Love is My Religion.
Kim Stockblom, a.k.a Kimono, was born in Stockholm in 1982. He was introduced to electronic dance music at the age
of 13 and Detroit Techno heroes like Jeff Mills and Derrick May soon influenced him to get a pair of turntables. In
recent years, Swedish Techno legends like Adam Beyer, Cari Lekebusch, Thomas Krome and Joel Mull are Kim's major
sources of inspiration.
Around 2007, Kim began to assemble his own production studio and has since then been producing
around the clock to improve his skills. The Kimono style of today is all about the "dirty" experimental sounds of Techno,
always influenced by the ever-changing trends of electronic music. With releases on Cari Lekebush's
Hybrid Productions and with frequent gigs at Berns Club 2:3:51, Kimono is definitely well prepared to
take on the international Techno scene.
Mikael Monoton is one of the driving forces behind EMC and a long time regular behind the turntables, with nearly ten years of
experience as a DJ from all sorts of clubs and outdoor events, both Swedish and foreign. Michael's style is best described as
uncompromisable Techno, played with a technical perfection and a notable passion and energy. As for today, Michael also works
hard on perfecting his skills as a producer (don't miss his 2011 releases on Miniatures Records, out now on Beatport) and we
discern an increased use of self produced material during his DJ appearances.
Glen Clark is a former Londoner, now with his home base new in Gothenburg. Glen has over 12 years experience of professional DJing and in recent years he has also revealed himself as a producer on the rise. Glen C is linked to the quality and cult record company Iboga Records, where he houses in good company with global names in the Progressive House and Tech-house
genre as Antix, Orbital, Nyquist and Emok. Through experience and technical knowledge, Glen C has been recognized as a super reliable booking that always delivers a perfect blend of music and personal closeness to the dance floor.
MORG is among Gothenburg's most distinguished DJs and producers. He started his career in Gothenburg in the 90's
through his work with his own record label/ store Flexible. MORG's skills behind the decks, together with his many
european lable releaes, qickly turned him into a respected international DJ. Today he is considered to be one of
Gothenburg's Techno-scene key people, responsible for consecutive high quality events. MORG plays music that is
best described as techno, always with a consistent theme and always with continuous rhythmical elements.
In the early nineties Martin was drawn towards the electronic psychedelic dance scene that was evolving in Gothenburg. As years went by, his musical direction slowly shifted from energetic Psy- and Full-On trance to a somewhat slower, rhythmical and clubbier sound. Today, years later, Martin's music selection consists solely of club-oriented music, music that is best described to be within the shady boundaries of what is called Techno and Tech-House.
David is not only graphically responsible for EMC's public profile but also a passionate electronica enthusiasts with a wide spectrum
of genres in his DJ-bag. The inspiration for his modern design creations and his much appreciated DJ sets are primarily derived from
plain old good music and from the surroundings in general. David's style is best described as
a jumpy and uptempo mix of funky Tech-House and Minimal, always with a flair for the dance floor and always with a touch of the unexpected.
There are two species: David & Love. Both born in Sweden, but later migrated to Oslo in Norway. Domesticated to provide joy, dance and to contribute as creative souls. A fully grown adult Kamel stands 1.75 m (5 ft 7 in) to 1.83 m (6 ft ) tall and can dj 24 hours per day. Kamels can run up to 127 Bpm in short bursts, sustain funky speeds around 124 Bpm and rest at 114 Bpm.
Fossile evidence indicates that the kamels evolved in Oslo year 2008 from a fusion of daydreams and a certain groove. Later they spread to many parties throughout Scandinavia, recent studies shows an increase of the kamels running distance in 2011. Kamel groove is staple food of city club tribes and are richer in fat and energy than a straight groove. It is said to have many healthful properties, it is also used as a medicinal product and as an dancefloor feedstock.
As a result of a request from a Gothenburg based nightclub to run visuals, Startsladd was formed in January 2008. The first set created took about a week to perfect but became the start of a brand new VJ crew on the Swedish West Coast.
Following this first set, the rumor about the talented VJ crew quickly spread, and Startsladd found themselves performing in various clubs all over Sweden. Contrary to the strict animated material that most other visuals are based on, Startsladd rely heavily on their prerecorded material, produced by themselves – something that might have to do with the fact that they both work as professional photographers and editors for television.
Today, Startsladd produces, mixes live and delivers DVDs with custom-made material to clubs (e.g. custom made DVD to EMC), festivals (e.g. live at Mapping Festival, Switzerland) and cultural events (e.g. performing at the opening of Gothenburg Film Festival) in Sweden and all over Europe. Startsladd consists of Andreas Apelqvist (SE), Dan Nordgren (SE) and Daniel Strömberg (BE).
